When Larry created Tony Scotti’s Vehicle Dynamics Institute (TSVDI) with Joe Autera in 2003 he already had an extensive background in using Vehicle Dynamics as a training tool. For ten years as a Lead Test Driver for the Army Evaluation Center (AEC) at Aberdeen Proving Grounds Larry designed scenario-based exercises for the purpose of evaluating both vehicle and driver capabilities under a wide range of circumstances, including testing and evaluation of a the up-armored HMMWV. Larry’s experience at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds has contributed extensively to the research, development and testing projects conducted by TSVDI.
Mr. Side is a former Non Commissioned Officer in the United States Army and veteran of Operation Desert Storm. During military service he was responsible, for developing and conducting a variety of small unit training programs relating to tactical vehicle operations, convoy security and mobile force protection tactics, techniques and procedures.
Mr. Side’s experience on the test track and various types of driving ranges has contributed extensively to testing projects conducted by TSVDI and Tony Scotti Associates on behalf of various private sector entities, government agencies and publications.
In addition to his training and testing expertise, Mr. Side also brings real world security experience to VDI, having participated in secure transportation and surveillance detection operations in support of executive protection details operating in moderate and high risk locales throughout Latin America, Europe, and both the Middle and Far East.
Larry has also developed and implemented a variety of training programs related to vehicle operations, advanced driving techniques and mobile force protection tactics. Using his experience and knowledge of Vehicle Dynamics, Larry wrote the TSVDI Pocket Manual, which is the Bible for all TSVDI instructors. Using his extensive knowledge of Vehicle Dynamics and his years of experience testing and evaluating vehicles Larry has designed the TSVDI computer control systems that measure student performance.
