The Science of Protection, Creating Scenario Based Training – The Cantu Assassination
Rodolfo Torre Cantu was a physician and politician running for governor of the Mexican State of Tamaulipas. In June of 2010, while driving in a non-armored two vehicle scenario, he was ambushed and assassinated.
Shortly after the assassination, we (VDI/ISDA) (Joe Autera/Tony Scotti) were asked to develop an attack timeline and from the timeline develop lessons learned.
We had unprecedented access to information concerning the attack such as; detailed photos taken at the ambush scene, and a video from a gas station surveillance camera. Although the video was taken from a long distance, we were able to watch the beginning stages of the ambush.
Using the forensic data from the video, pictures, Google Maps, and other sources we managed to put together a timeline of what happened seconds before the incident.

The Cantu incident is one of the many events, past and present, that are forensically analyzed with the goal of creating scenario-based training and lessons learned, and are available to ISDA members.
