About the Author
Duke Speed is the Founder and Director of The Kopis Center for Law Enforcement and Security Solutions, a veteran-owned small business that specializes in the delivery of operationally-proven security consulting and training services, domestically and internationally.
From 2009 to 2014, Speed was employed by the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC); Cheltenham, Maryland, where he served as the Program Manager, Course Developer, and Senior Instructor of all Executive Protection Operations Training for 90-plus federal law enforcement and intelligence organizations in the National Capital Region. Additionally, he served as a Senior Instructor and Instructional Systems Design (ISD) Specialist in the Tactics/Physical Techniques and Advanced Weapons Branches.
Shortly following the tragic events of 9/11, Speed was employed by the U.S. Federal Air Marshal Service and served as the Senior In-Service Training Instructor for the Los Angeles Field Office. Additionally, he has been employed as an independent contractor for various private sector companies, including service in Iraq as a U.S. Department of State contractor for the Worldwide Personal Protective Services (WPPS) program; the Fluor/FEMA Katina/Rita IATAC Project; and the U.S. Navy Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection Training Program.
Speed is a 20-year active-duty veteran (retired) of the U.S. Marine Corps with assignments in Force Recon, Division Recon, Special Operations Training Group, Infantry, Aviation, Inspector General, and Recruiting organizations. He is certified as a Reconnaissance Marine, Military Freefall Parachutist, Jumpmaster, Combatant Diver, Dive Supervisor, Scout Swimmer, Assault Climber, Mountain Leader, Helocast Master, Rappel Master, Fast Rope Master, SPIE Master, and Close Quarter Battle/Dynamic Assault Instructor.
Speed has a Bachelor of Science (Magna Cum Laude) in Criminal Justice from National University and is a Certified Protection Professional (CPP).
